Welcome to my blog

Today is a beautiful rainy spring day in Seldovia. A little wind, a little sun and here and there some sprinkles of rain.

I am making some homemade soup and finishing up some artwork. I am so glad you stopped by..please get yourself a cup of coffee and join me in my kitchen studio.

I have a regular studio upstairs ...but to tell you the truth..my kitchen table is where I do most of my art....with a cup of coffee and good friends stopping by to chat. Sit down and stay awhile..I am never too busy for company!

Hackers

On Monday night this week my hotmail account was hacked in to by people...(not people, criminals)
I can no longer access my hotmail account and all of my information on classes and friends and information that I had saved...like genealogy information and photos....oh my gosh..

Anyway...I apologize to anyone who got the email scam....

Life is never dull and Happy Thanksgiving!

I spent hours doing the laces on the boots and vest...holy cow! I thought I was going to go blind trying to see those teeny tiny things. So here are some photos of "the warrior faery"....she has been a learning experience but a lot of fun to make.

Wind is picking up!

The wind is starting to really whip around here....the spruce trees look like they are dancing. I had company drop by for coffee and I stopped working on my post to sit and visit....one of the lovely things about working from home and living in a small town. So now I will post a couple more pictures of the fairy that has become a part of the family I have been working so long on it.

The wings are poseable and the hair can be styled differently if the buyer wants....but I have left it down....I will post this as I expect the electricity to go out with this wind....Hugs

Fairy Warrior....will I ever be finished?????

Well here she is....only a couple of things to add....like pupils in the eyes and stuff like that. So here is where I am with this one. I am hoping to get her listed somewhere soon...maybe ebay ....to see if I can sell her.

Forgotten Ears

This is the place I am at right now. Can you believe it.....I forgot to sculpt the ears...holy cow.

The weather is turning cold now so snow is not far off. A quiet time here in Seldovia. I love this time of year it gives me time to stop and think and look inward....to work on my art, read books, just to be......

Thursday...Not Bad

Well today is not bad considering how bad I know the weather can get and has been. It rained and stormed last night...and all day yesterday. Partly sunny today with light clouds.

I have errands to run most of the day and paper work to get filed and finished....so maybe tonight I can work on my lessons in sculpting. I hope so because you know....that is what I'd rather be doing.

Time for bed

This is what I have accomplished so far today. Now it is time for bed....

Still much to do to finish... Tomorrow is another day.

Rainy Seldovia Day

Today we are experiencing a heavy downpour... sometimes rain just feels so right. I have not been able to sculpt today but last night I finished up some work on the Marilyn Radzadt workshop I am taking....there are some details I need to adjust...like the eyes are uneven and the nose my be a little too big.....but here it is.....

Still a lot to do but it is a "work in progress"

Monday, September 27, 2010

This is where I am right now. But will be working on it after I post this.

Workshop online

Here is the beginning.....of the class I am taking from a wonderful artist Marilyn Radzadt. I hope I spelled her name correctly.

More pictures to post in a minute.

Here is a little blue fairy I am working on ....I have painted the pants dark brown and am thinking about a top hat and what kind of hairdo I want for her......just wondering.

Here is the little warrior with a fuller hairdo. I like it better and I may add a little more just for loft and height.

But she is looking better each time I make an adjustment.

Tuesday

Just when you think you have your day planned. ..... something up and happens that changes your whole day.

But tomorrow is looking to be another glorious day and will be able to sculpt ..at least for the afternoon.

The weather here in Seldovia, Alaska is starting to really look like fall, the birch trees are changing colors and the plants in the garden are just about on their last blooms and looking a little ragged and spent. So comes the quiet time of year....the settling in time....well for me at least.

For my family it is snow boarding, snow machine riding, skiing...oh yikes...I just like to sit in doors and watch the snow fall...I love all the little flakes swirling around in the wind....I put my Christmas music on and just have a great time...

But for now it is time to put the garden to bed....put away the gardening tools....plant the last of the bulbs and bring in the begonias....and get ready for spring!.....the seed catalogs will be coming out in a few months....yaaaaaaaaa

Time to rest

Well this is as far as I got today...one wing, her necklace and I didn't break anything....so that is good. Tomorrow is another day...see if I can get her finished or at least a little bit closer to being finished.

All that glitters is probably glitter

I am going to put glitter on to this fairy and hope to make the necklace look like gold rings around the neck...I hope it works...

Here she is with the gold glitter on her...I touched up a few other things and also put this glitter on to the wings I am going to use on her just to keep the color tied in..Here are two photos of right after I put the glitter on. ....I am waiting for the glue to dry before I brush off the excess....

Necklace for the Fairy

Today is rainy here in Seldovia although by our standards...not a very bad day....no snow and no wind....that is a good thing.

Fairy Warrior Work in Progress

Hi, I am back. It has been awhile since I have had time to sculpt but sculpting I am.....it feels good to have my hands back in the clay. Here is the Fairy Warrior that I have been working on forever. I am almost ready to put her on ebay....just some added touches.

I always learn so much from each of my small sculptures...This one has really tested my patience. I have had to redo her head twice...finally I am satisfied with how it has turned out. I will post photos when I have finished her totally.

August 30....rain, rain, rain

Well another soggy bottom day in Slowdovia.....haven't found my camera yet...still looking. Right now my grandson is making slugs with clay...the kind in Flushed Away...soooooo dang cute. I am going to put them in my houseplants and if he can make bigger ones ..they are going in my garden...He is painting them with metallic paint..omg they are awesomely irresistable.....and when I find my camera I will post pics of those too....

Going to go look in some more boxes.....

Alaska in August

Alaska in August is generally a very busy place. But this year around my house it seems to be busier than ever...with my son and his family who have moved here and are living with me while looking for a new place to live. All of the children are in school now and the parents have jobs...so just to find a house for them that is big enough.

I have however found time to work on a sculpt that was half finished before they got here so...now I am getting the urge to sculpt something new...... winter must be just around the corner. The settling in time of year....when everything slows to a nice mellow pace....and I gain about 20 pounds.

Berries are all getting ripe...something we didn't think would ever happen this year because of all the rain...the bears are happy....I know the humans are too.....amazing what a little sunshine can do for just about everything...makes the whole world look better.

I will be posting pictures....tomorrow I will be looking for my camera which I haven't seen since the 4th of July.....I really must show you my new work.....I am really happy with it.

Done for the day.

My son Shad and his wife Tiffany and their three children are driving the Alcan in about two weeks to move to Seldovia. They have all of their belongings in a long trailer they are pulling behind their car. WOW! I am excited to have them all here....it will be great. Go to http://scraptiffany.typepad.com/seldovia/ to see their blog of driving the Alcan highway to Alaska.

Finished working in the garden for today.....I am a gardener for SVT here in Seldovia. It is fun and a lot of work.(well for a 65 year old woman it is)

I have a new helper and his name is Adam. He is about 16 I think and a very good worker. The most important thing is that he can lift things that are too heavy for me. He is a happy person and is curious about things in the garden.

The weather here in Alaska is still cold for this time of year and the nights are staying in the 40's soooo....nothing is really rushing to bloom or fully leaf out.

May 21, 2010

A Beautiful day in Seldovia. The sun is shining and it is 44*......today is an" in the garden" type of day. The morning sun is reflecting off of the water and there is just the slightest morning breeze.

I haven't been sculpting lately because I am getting ready for summer. Working in the garden and cleaning my yard.

My granddaughter Nichole has come to live with me and my brother Todd has gone back to Nebraska for his son Derek's graduation and induction in to the Marines...way to go Derek! We are very proud of you.

My son Shad and his family will be here on June 21st....and I am really excited about that. He hasn't been home in 20 years and his children have never been here......WOW! Big changes are coming in their lives......what an adventure....driving up the Alcan .....

Cassandra

Cassandra and her new owner. This is the day she went to live in her new home....She will be very loved and happy.

Finished my WF3 fairy

I have finished the Wendy Froud Fairy and she has been picked up by her new owner Roxi Patrick. I really like how she has turned out and am thinking I would like to start another.

April 11, 2010

I still need to put a body stocking on her and cover the white parts with it....before I can actually put on the clothing...the reason for that is the clothing will be sewn and glued on and so not removeable.....
I like how she is turning out. Roxi picked auburn hair for her and I think it is a wonderful choice. Lots to do still but we are getting closer to being done. I told Roxi she needs to pick a name for the doll....so maybe by the next post she will have her own name.....maybe she will be a princess fairy or something regal like that....stay tuned....

Wendy Froud dvd workshop

Here in Seldovia it is clear 21* and so very beautiful....It is suppose to be 37* today so we will get some melting happening. My fairy sculpt is coming along. I finally have time to work on it. Here she is.....
Now I need to cover the white batting with a fabric to look like skin....I hope I can find something that will work. Today I hope to get it covered and painted...also the hands made ...I had made some before...but I wanted to do another set with a little more detail.

Another Try

Ok...another try to download photos of my studio...yahooo...it is working Well it seems this is all it will let me post right now....so here it is....more later...

My Studio

Here is my studio....no quite as tidy as I would like but ...it is getting there. Well ...I can not get my photo to upload...so I will try later....

I am working on my WF3 Fairy ...she is looking like she is coming to life...fun to see. When I can I will download photos of that also.

So now I will get back to work, as my goal was to put photos on my blog.....so.....see ya later..

OMG I have been so sick!

I made it through Easter and then I got sooooo sick. I am feeling better today, but still sort of weak....holy cow! No fun ..at all.

I did get pictures of my studio..I will post them tomorrow....and of the snow storm we have been experiencing....so .....I am going back to lay on the couch.....Hopefully tomorrow I will feel stronger and be up and around...

My Studio is Ready....

I have been working hard to get my studio all set up and ready for working in. And I think I am there.

I have all of my sculpting supplies moved up and put away ....sorting and putting things in order just lets you know what you have and what you need. And I have found that I don't really need to purchase much, as I have things I didn't know I had....(shock)!

The watercolor paper is calling my name. I need to get something created and matted for the big Booster Club Auction on the 10th of this month....I had better hurry......I love to support our kids this way..it is a win/win for everyone.

After Easter I will be spending time in the Studio.....tomorrow is the big dinner and everyone is coming to my house so there is no sense in starting a project and then just have to stop in the middle.....I like to start something and then work through until it is finished......starting and stopping makes me forget what I had envisioned for the piece.....and I lose the sponteniety of the artwork.

I am going up to take photos of the workspace to post here....so come back soon to see my studio all tidied up.....quite possibly the last time you will see it that way..

Studio Stuff

This week I have been moving my studio back upstairs and I am almost done. So that means I will be back to my sculpting soon. I absolutely love my studio. Scott built it when he added on the new dining room and it get so much good light and is really big....you can never have too much room in your studio.

I also have been the 911 dispatcher this last week and for some reason that just wears me out. Any late night calls leaves tired for days. I don't know if it is the loss of sleep or the stress of the call....and in 30 years of doing this I still haven't figured it out....but I am still doing it.

I will take pictures of my studio and post them later.....that is if....I can get it to look uncluttered.

Spring Cleaning

Well it has to be done...today I am doing inside windows.. and mirrors. Always makes me feel better. Also gives me time to think about what I will do with some of the art pieces I have in the works. Planning while working.'

The weather is a warm 39*...no rain yet. But rain would be welcome and melt the snow faster.

Rethinking

Ok...all that work and today I am not at all happy with it. So I ripped it apart.....oh I hate sleeping on it and then changing my mind. But....maybe something better will happen....I think...maybe a tree topper for the Christmas tree......oh.....help!

Thursday, March 18, 2010

Here is what I have done today....worked on the face a bit. I may have to do it over but it gives me an idea of what I am heading towards. I need to fix one of the eyes. I see it isn't fully round. The brown part didn't make the circle. It also needs an iris and a second lighter color of brown. Time to quit for today. And make dinner.

Thursday Project

Here is the mystic I am working on...I say mystic because I don't think I will make her in to a fairy with wings....she just doesn't seem to be going in that direction.

Anyway...I seem to have her balanced....but still need more weight at the bottom. I will think on that and see what I can come up with. In the mean time here are the photos of where I am with the work....WIP..work in progress.

March 18, 2010

Grey, rain, wind and snow.....a great March day. I am going to try to make a base for my sculpt with the broken neck....I glued 4 kabob sticks to the base to give it sturdiness and height....and wrapped the base with tinfoil... The next thing I will do is wrap it in tinfoil wider at the bottom for balance...that is the trick...."balance".... I'll post pictures on how that looks this afternoon.

Beautiful Seldovia Day

Today is one of those "Just another day in Paradise" day. So beautiful and calm and 33*...no snow, no wind and clear skies.

Here is a picture of my small dragons that I have been making out of my left over or dirty clay....I have painted them and put a clear coat of sealer on to protect the paint.

I love these kind of days....there is so much promise of spring.

Today is my daughter Stephanie's birthday....she is my shamrock child...a wild irish blond.

Happy Birthday Stephanie..hope you have a GREAT Birthday.

I am going to start two new sculpts today....one large and small....hope they turn out.

My brother, Todd, just went down to work on the boat, they are getting ready to go out and fish cod fish or halibut...I don't know which one..maybe both.....long lining.

I am listening to "Prodigal Summer"...pretty good book on tape.

Fixed Neck

This is what it looks like now. But I have not hard baked her....I will do that today. She has a wooden rod...actually a kabob stick...don't tell the teacher...inside. I am not sure at this time how to do the bottom torso...hmmmm....but I will think on it. No color scheme yet either...but I still have some silk I can dye.

I had loose wires inside my sculpt and when I laid her down the neck cracked. She was not hard baked..just lightly to hold the face form.

Color of silk and suede

Here are better pictures of the hand dyed silk scarf and garment suede with the trim that Roxi picked out.
