Welcome to my blog

Today is a beautiful rainy spring day in Seldovia. A little wind, a little sun and here and there some sprinkles of rain.

I am making some homemade soup and finishing up some artwork. I am so glad you stopped by..please get yourself a cup of coffee and join me in my kitchen studio.

I have a regular studio upstairs ...but to tell you the truth..my kitchen table is where I do most of my art....with a cup of coffee and good friends stopping by to chat. Sit down and stay awhile..I am never too busy for company!

Judith's Muse

I haven't asked Judith yet if this Muse will have a name. I really should as Muses are very strong and passionate entities.

I worked late last night and got critiques from the Beginners Polymer Clay Sculpture Group. Ever so helpful. I needed to lower the eyelids and that took awhile because I kept bumping the nose and cheeks....so I had to keep redoing them.

Judith's Muse

The other day at the Craft Fair my friend Judith asked me if I would create a Muse for her. Not just any Muse, but one that is singing and had hands in her lap, as well as having her eyes closed. Hmmmmm....could I really do this. Sounded a little like mission impossible to me, but, never one to shy away from a challenge..... and not feeling especially sharp that day and being in an impoverished state.... I said "yes".

Ok. So. This is where I am. Not as far along as I would want to be, but, certainly not still at the starting gate.

Not bad so far.... still a long way from being done.

April 20, 2011

It has been a while since I have written in my blog. Life has a way of just sneaking up on you. My daughter Shannon is very ill in the hospital, which really has taken the air out of my other daughter Stephanie is there taking care of her. We do not know what exactly is wrong and the doctors are running tests.

On top of that my ex-husband, with whom I have an on going relationship, has been admitted to the hospital also and he is also in very serious condition. I just can't seem to get my balance under me before another catastrophe happens.

So when I am stressed I tend to isolate. I have a hard time being with people or talking about what is happening...maybe this blog will help.

I belong to a very supportive, creative clay group that is full of understanding people but..you know.....dumping on your friends, no matter how nice they are and understanding is just taking advantage of their good nature.....to make yourself feel better..not my way of doing things.

I have not been able to be creative ....seems like every time I pick up a piece of clay it just doesn't turn out.....no creative energy at all. So I have spent time putting things in my Etsy Shop. Sandee's Village Shop on Etsy. www.selvsaas.etsy.com. Old stuff I made a long time ago. And things my grandson Nate made.....at least that makes me feel useful....

waiting for news from far away is exhausting, especially about someone you love. And when it is two someones...holy cow! What next!

Well that is enough whining...I guess I will go make myself a sandwich. Nathan made meatball subs and they are amazingly good. Death by meatballs....I ate way too many.

Moon Shots

Ok...these are the beginning photos of the moon challenge. I really learned a lot and I really like my moon. She is serene and I call her "Grandmother Moon".....she is old and wise and watching over us.

I think I will do another....just because I want to do some sculpts to go on them.

Beginning of my moon sculpt

Here are some photos of the moon project as I worked on it. I really enjoyed the challenge and learned a lot about solving problems as they come up. Well I guess I haven't downloaded my photos yet....hmmmmmm. I must be slipping...well ....then...tomorrow I will work on my blog and post lots of photos. Good night....23* it has warmed up some....

Finally taking the Christmas Tree Down!

Well ...today is the day. The Christmas tree is finally coming down. I could actually wait until Easter...but.....so far my children and grandchildren haven't actually said anything but....I know it's coming....

Time to put it away for another year. I leave it up for a long time because so much work goes in to it and winter is so dark....it just brightens up an otherwise dark time of year. But the days are getting longer and I am wanting to start some garden seeds....so I need the space. Goodbye old friend for another year....see you on the 2nd of December....

Windy & Cold

Today it is windy and cold. 18* with a northwind blowing, feels like it could suck the life right out of a person.

Yesterday was the Valentines Day Craft Fair......this time of year the Craft Fairs are very slow but it is nice to get together with the other crafters and share what we all have been doing in each of our crafts. We had a few of our regular supporters and we are so grateful for their braving the cold to come out and see what we have to offer and shop.

I have been working on a moon sculpt for a challenge on the BPCSG and I really like the way it has turned out.

Everyone who entered a moon in the challenge did amazing stuff.....some have such a funny sense of humor .... the idea was given the same to each person...but what they did with it made it so individual....creativity is such an amazing gift.

Well I am going to use my moon as a base for another piece so I did not get too far out there with the color or decoration. I really like the face and how the surface of the moon turned out.
